JUDGING SEXUAL CONDUCT

The US Congress has drafted legislation to make the homosexual lifestyle legal. The President has supported the Congress and signed it into law. The Supreme Court has sanctioned the Congress’s actions and the President has ruled that homosexuality is now legal under the Constitution. Their actions may make homosexuality legal, but they do not make it right. Only God can do that, only God can judge righteousness.

At God’s command the Jewish patriarch Abraham took his nephew Lot and left the city of Ur on the Euphrates River and migrated to Palestine, which was then known as the land of Canaan.  Lot later left Abraham and his nomadic way of life to settle in the city of Sodom, from which we get the word Sodomy. In the Bible the first time homosexuality is mentioned is in the book of Genesis which tells the story of God’s destroying the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because they practiced homosexuality.

One day two angels, in human form, visited Sodom.  Lot invited these strangers into his home to spend the night. The men of Sodom were not happy with Lot. They looked upon the two strangers as a chance to get some fresh meat, targets of opportunity. So, “All the men of Sodom, young and old, came from all over the city and surrounded the house.

“They shouted to Lot, ‘Where are the men who came to spend the night with you? Bring them out so we can have sex with them’.”  “Lot stepped outside to talk to them, shutting the door behind him. ‘Please my brothers,” he begged; don’t do such a wicked thing’.”  (Genesis, Chapters. 18, 19.) The men of Sodom ignored Lot’s appeal.  They were determined to have sex with these strangers.  They were so determined that they pounded on the door to Lot’s house to break it down.  This greatly displeased God and the next morning he destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their inhabitants.

Years passed and then a famine broke out which caused the Jews, as the descendants of Abraham were then called, to migrate to Egypt where they lived for over four hundred years.  When they finally left Egypt they headed back toward Palestine, through the Red Sea.  But instead of going directly to Palestine their disobedience in worshipping a golden calf and their refusal to militarily invade the Promised Land when directed by God to invade it, caused God to make them spend forty additional years wandering in the Sinai desert.

It was during this time of wandering that God, through Moses, explained to the Jews, in writing, what acceptable rules of conduct were.  God told them, “You must obey all my regulations and be careful to keep all my laws.” He said, “Do not practice homosexuality; it is a detestable sin … The penalty for homosexual acts is death to both parties.”  (Leviticus, Ch. 20.) God taught the Jews that just because something is legal, does not make it right.

Since then, there have been no changes to God’s biblical code of conduct for men and women on earth. That is why The Apostle Paul in writing to Christians in Rome said,  “But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away from themselves … God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved.” (Romans, Ch. 1.)

From the beginning of the Bible through until the end, God defined homosexuality as a sin that is particularly wicked, detestable and shameful. The punishment reserved for those who practice it is clearly spelled out by the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthian Church. “Those who indulge in sexual sin … homosexuals  ... none of these will have a share in the kingdom of God … sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.” (1 Corinthians, Ch. 6.)

Our founders were Godly men and women who established a nation based on life, liberty, morality, the pursuit of happiness and, “The Advancement of the Christian Faith.”  They believed in following the precepts of the Bible because it provides a natural, God approved way to live as opposed to an unnatural one. God expects us to follow His natural way. All other ways are shameful, wicked, sinful, and  detestable.
