NEW GOP CONTEMPLATES SUICIDE BY OPEN CAUCUS IN 2012

Once “Republicans” are sold on “Democracy,” we
really do have only one side of the political aisle
and one political party.
From Article IV – Section IV of the U.S.
Constitution – “The United States shall guarantee to
every state in this union a
republican
form of government, and shall protect each of
them against invasion; and on application of the
legislature, or of the executive (when the
legislature cannot be convened) against domestic
violence.”
Who told Republicans that we are a democracy? It
wasn’t Thomas Jefferson, who said quite plainly - “A
democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where
fifty-one percent of the people may take away the
rights of the other forty-nine.” – It’s actually
worse than Jefferson stated. Today, democracy is
where 30% of the people can and do run roughshod
over 70% who stand opposed, just because 70% are too
decent and ill-formed to even realize they are at
war with the 30% seeking a very different form of
government, one based on free-stuff at the expense
of freedom.
Even Karl Marx, the father of socialism, was quite
clear on the subject - “Democracy is the road to
socialism.” – Yet, most Americans have been
indoctrinated to believe that America is a
democracy instead of a
Constitutional Representative Republic and
there is a day and night difference between the two.
As a result, many modern day (big tent) Republicans
fight for the wrong things today, as they proclaim
adherence to principles and values that they don’t
even know.
One of the latest disasters within the new GOP
precincts is a push for either
open primaries, caucus primaries or the worst of
all options, both. These concepts are based on a
democracy, or mob rule. 51% of the people in the
room can indeed take away the rights of the other
49% by simply shouting them out of the room. This is
how the caucus system works, and the loudest most
obnoxious group in the room always wins, even if
they are a minority in the room.
Caucus primaries are often rough and rowdy -
sometimes even a knock-down-drag-out affair between
competing factions pushing their individual “caucus”
agendas, all within one party. It is an
unsustainable system in that it creates deep
divisions and resentments among party members.
When open to all political stripes, you have the
worst possible scenario wherein people who will vote
democrat, libertarian, independent or third party in
the general election are shouting everyone else out
of the room during the Republican primary, leaving
the GOP with great division and an unelectable
candidate in the general election.
If you want people who voted for Barack Obama or
Hillary Clinton in 2008 to help choose the GOP
candidate for 2012, open primaries is how you do it,
especially if you use a caucus format which allows
the loudest most obnoxious caucus group in the room
to shout everyone else out of the room.
This is how we ended up with John McCain in 2008.
Proponents of the open-caucus system often point to
Iowa or Nevada as their example of what a great idea
the caucus system is. The
Iowa Caucus of 2008 gave us Mike Huckabee, a
totally un-electable candidate who dropped out of
the race not long after. Mitt Romney placed second
in the Iowa Caucus in 2008. Nevada had one task in
2010, get rid of Harry Reid and they failed to do it
due to divisions within the Republican Party, via
the caucus system.
Ron Paul fans pushing for open caucus primaries in
2012 didn’t do so well in the Iowa Caucus, with
their man finishing almost dead last with only 10%
of the vote in Iowa. The
New Hampshire primaries, also a caucus format,
gave us John McCain, but with only 37% support from
New Hampshire voters.
Still, Ron Paul fans have looked at these facts and
concluded that
open-caucus primaries are the best option for Ron
Paul. Frankly, it is the only option for Ron
Paul, who could win the 2012 GOP nomination no other
way.
First, a large portion of Ron Paul supporters are
not Republicans, but rather Libertarians, Democrats
and Independents. Paul must have “open” primaries in
which all political stripes can vote in the
Republican primaries in order to make a decent
showing in 2012. The vast majority of Republicans
simply will not support Ron Paul, and never have.
Second, they must use the caucus format in order to
shout all of the Republicans out of the primaries,
making it possible for Ron Paul to win the GOP
nomination with the support of Democrats,
Libertarians and Independents, after Republicans
leave the room in disgust.
In Michigan, the Ron Paul camp was able to gain
control of several key Republican precincts last
year. After gaining that power, they helped make
someone who had given to Democrats like Nancy Pelosi
and Harry Reid, head of the Michigan GOP… Brilliant!
Now under the guise of a
Michigan Caucus for Victory proposal,
libertarians Gene Clem and Adam de Angeli are
pushing for open-caucus GOP primaries in Michigan,
because they will need Democrat and Independent
voters to advance Ron Paul in the GOP presidential
primary. It’s the only way Ron Paul can advance in a
GOP primary and Paul supporters now working from the
local Republican Precincts hope to convince local
Republicans to vote for an open-caucus system for
this reason alone.
But let’s face it – open caucus primaries are akin
to inviting cell leaders of Al Qaeda to not only
attend U.S. counter-terrorism briefings, but vote on
our counter-terrorism strategies as well. There is a
difference between open transparency and insanity,
and I hope the good people of Michigan know the
difference. There are good reasons why sport teams
meet in separate locker rooms… The new breed
politico seems to overlook the most obvious flaws in
their strategies, or do they simply have a different
set of goals?
Instead, the GOP should go to a closed primary
system in every county across the country as it is
the only way the GOP will ever produce a
“conservative” GOP nominee. Imagine that…
conservatives picking their own conservative party
candidate for a change. The big tent now includes
the enemy…
The BIG TENT era in the GOP must come to a
screeching halt, or there is no way for the
Republican Party to produce a truly Republican
(conservative) candidate. Libertarians are aligned
with conservatives on fiscal concerns, but they are
aligned with Democrats on the social policies that
will always end in unbridled social spending,
illegal immigration and weak national security.
The BIG TENT GOP era has produced moderate-centrist
candidates at best. We have no idea how a real
conservative might fare in the general election
because we have not run a real conservative for the
office of president in decades.
But based upon the historical low approval rating of
congress, even when centrist Republicans (RINOs) are
in control, I’d say it’s time to see if the nation
is ready for a real true honest to goodness
conservative. We can’t advance one through the
primary process with voters of competing ideologies
voting in those primaries.
On the other hand, if the goal is to finish off the
GOP, the open-caucus primaries will do the job right
quick. The GOP is on the ropes already and
open-caucus primaries will be the final nail in the
coffin. Then we really will have a one-party
government and that party isn’t at all American.
Republicans must pick their own nominee. To do that,
they must have CLOSED primaries. PERIOD!
