Executive Orders: Because Obama Knows What You Want

Now that Obama has lost the House of Representatives, it appears as if his handlers are determined to rule by decree through executive orders instead.
So excited is John Podesta that he put together nearly 54 pages of battle plans on how Obama can abuse executive orders, describing in detail how Obama could ignore the results of the 2010 mid-term election and operate like a tyrant – effectively ruling by decree.
Far removed from his days as Bill Clinton's right hand man, Podesta is now heading up the George Soros front group Center for American Progress (CAP) is practically playing the middleman, handing a plan of attack from Soros straight to the Oval Office desk.
The report's executive summary notes certainly aren't encouraging:
"Concentrating on executive powers presents a real opportunity for the Obama administration to turn its focus away from a divided Congress and the unappetizing process of making legislative sausage. Instead, the administration can focus on the president's ability to deliver results for the American people on the things that matter most to them."
Of course, this isn't anything new. We warned back in 2008 that Obama would start using executive orders shortly after his election. In fact, I pointed out that John Podesta had pioneered the use of Executive Orders when he worked for President Bill Clinton.
And what do Podesta and Soros want Obama to accomplish through Executive Orders?
How's about raising taxes on imported oil?
Using the EPA to force the elimination of coal-fired plants?
Consolidating control over American businesses through a so-called Consumer Financial Protection Bureau?
Making it more difficult for law enforcement to deal with illegal immigration?
Supporting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) political agenda by overturning the ban on gays serving openly in the military?
Standing down and avoiding any military option against Iran?
I've just learned that Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is considering finding ways to scramble cell phone signals in cars in order to "protect" us from ourselves. Will Obama issue an Executive Order forcing all car companies to install scrambling devices in new cars? Will he force us to retrofit older cars with scramblers? Do LaHood and Obama have any legal authority to consider doing this? I think not.
So what's the solution? A discussion of the Congressional Review Act would also be helpful. This Act permits Congress to overrule executive branch federal regulations by passing a joint resolution against them. Yes, the President must sign any such resolution. But at least this process would slow down the abuse of Executive Orders by President Obama -- and make his agenda public.
The Republican-led Congress should do whatever is legally necessary to block Obama in his effort to rule by executive order. President Obama has clearly not been impacted by the mid-term debacle his party suffered. He's moving ahead with his Imperial Presidency as if nothing happened. He's going to find out that the elections signaled a complete rejection of his agenda.
